Ann O’Hara Baer, 74, an Army Lieutenant General’s wife who accompanied her husband to posts in Germany, Japan and across the United States when he was on active duty, died July 11, 2002, at the Hospice of Northern Virginia of emphysema.
Mrs. Baer, who lived in Fairfax Station, Virginia, was born in Brooklyn, New York. On New Year’s Eve 1948 in Augsburg, West Germany, she married Robert Baer, an Army officer who was posted there during the U.S. occupation after World War II.
They settled in the Washington area in 1964.
Mrs. Baer was a founding member of Jeremiah House, a shelter and educational center for unwed mothers near Leesburg. Her avocations included gardening, furniture refinishing and antiques.
In addition to her husband, of Fairfax Station, survivors include four children, John of Yorktown, Virginia, Thomas of Phoenix, Stephen of New York and Teresa Walker of Fort Myers, Florida; and five grandchildren.

Memorial Mass will be offered on Tuesday, August 13, at 12:45 p.m. at Fort Myer Old Post Chapel. Interment Arlington National Cemetery.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
