Died on 26 May 1952 in the crash of his B-45 aircraft at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia.
Lieutenant Butler is buried in Section 3 of Arlington National Cemetery. Buried with him is Albert Stow Butler, Seaman First Class, United States Navy (31 July 1897-10 October 1972). See photo below.
