From his son Colonel (Retired) Tom Schwartz:
Everything went great at Arlington. Dad went out in style. He rode his final stretch on the horse drawn caisson and had full honors. The great part was that old friends were there to say farewell.
Bill Mantooth, George Dellinger, Sam Bass, Ed Fucella, and Mike Fillmore represented the 519th with stories of life in the battalion. Lieutenant Generals Retired Ross Thompson and John Bruen also came to say goodbye. They went back to the early fifties with Dad.
We can be very proud of the fine job done by the staff at Arlington. They are just super people at helping when you are at your lowest point. Tom
My sympathy is with the family. My prayers are with the family. – Galen Slater – Twin Falls, Idaho.

To get me enrolled in our 519th Trans Bn. web site. I am Jose L. Benavides, in those days, a young 2LT, TC. fresh out of ROTC and the Univ of PR, receiving my first overseas assignment into the 519th on Dec 67 to Nov 68.
Colonel Schwartz beat my arrival for a couple of days and we left together the same day. I was initially assigned as a Platoon Leafder in the 291st. My initial time was spent in Camp Friendship, Korat. I did some of the Convoy runs between Korat and NKP (Nakhon Phanom) with an overnight stop at our Khon Kaen site.
After a while I was detached from the 291st Co HQ site in Korat to support the 809th Engr BN (still a member of the 519th) located in the middle of nowhere in Phanom Sarakham. The 260th was in that same post. It is my understanding that the 519th originally arrived in Phanom Sarakham and later moved to Korat and again moved to Phanom Sarakham.
