Archie Taylor Wright Jr., 86, a retired Navy captain who worked as an engineer and subcontract administrative officer for what is now E-Systems Inc., died May 4, 1998 at Georgetown University Hospital after a series of heart attacks.
Captain Wright, who was born in El Dorado, Texas, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis in 1933. He was captain of the academy’s boxing team and fought as a featherweight.
He spent the next 30 years on active duty. A majority of that time was spent as a line officer with gunnery and navigation duties. During the early years of World War II, he was an instructor in seamanship and navigation at the Naval Academy. He later became a navigating officer of a heavy cruiser in the Pacific.
Post-World War II duties included assignments as executive officer of a battleship and commanding officer of a destroyer. Following his military retirement in 1963 as chief of staff at the Potomac River Naval Command, he worked 13 years for a firm in Falls Church that later merged with E-Systems.
His military decorations included the Bronze Star.
He received a master’s degree in business administration from George Washington University.
He was a member of Metropolitan Memorial Methodist Church in Washington.
His wife, Adelle Wright, died in 1989. Survivors include three children, Suzanne W. Larimore of Reading, Mass., Archie T. Wright III of San Diego and Harriet W. Lankford of Alexandria; two sisters; and eight grandchildren.

On Monday, May 4, 1998, at Georgetown Hospital, CAPT. ARCHIE T. WRIGHT, JR., husband of the late Adelle L. Wright; father of Suzanne W. Larimore, Archie T. Wright, III and Harriet W. Lankford; brother of Agnes W. Munn, Beatrice W. Montgomery and the late Mrs. L. T. Barber. He is also survived by eight grandchildren. Friends are invited to meet at the Administration Building, Arlington National Cemetery, 8:30 a.m., Monday, May 18, 1998 to attend graveside services with full Navy honors at 9 a.m.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
