Sergeant Afred W. Edwards lost his battle with cancer 6 October 2001.
Enlisting at age 15 he served with the Air Force in World War II, Korea and Viet Nam. Upon retirement in 1968 he joined National Life Insurance Co. In Columbus, Ohio later transferring to Richmond, California.
In 1976, he moved to San Leandro where he became staff manager before retirement with American General Insurance Co. He then embarked upon a dream purchasing a club he called Al E’S Backyard on Telegraph Avenue in Oakland, California. There he became somewhat of an authority of his favorite subjects of music and movies settling many an argument among his patrons.
He leaves behind his Wife of 32 years, Anne, a son Richard Lee of Cincinnatti, Ohio, a Daughter Linda Randall of San Ramon, Step-daughters, Frankie, DeSalvo of Hayward, Patricia Rader (Jimmie Lee), of Thornville, Ohio., Barbara DeSalvo of Columbus, Ohio., and Marianne Conti (Louis) of Cape Coral, Florida, nine granchildren (one deceased), and four great grand children.
Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
