Robert Donohue joined the Coast Guard in 1913 and was one of the members of the first class at the Pensacola Naval Air Station.
He was sent against liquor smugglers in the late 1920s and in 1935 served on the Permanent Board of Avition of the Coast Guard and set up bases around the country. During World War II, he led the Air-Sea Rescue Service, and continued in this post until he retired from active duty in 1947.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
