CAPTAIN B. F. NORWOOD
Naval Surgeon, 55, Attached to Supply Depot in Brooklyn
BROOKLYN, New York, January 14, 1942 – Captain Benjamin Franklin Norwood, U.S.N., a surgeon attached to the Medical Supply Naval Depot, Brooklyn, died Monday night of a coronary thrombosis in his apartment in London Terrace, 435 West Twenty-Third Street. He was 55 years old.
He was born in Sanford, North Carolina, and had been one of the chief surgeons at the Naval Hospital, Washington, D.C. He was a recent graduate of the Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island, and his last sea duty was as senior medical officer on the USS California. He had also served at the Naval Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina.
Captain Norwood was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and the Harvard Medical School.
He leaves a widow, the former Anne Parker Robinson. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery on Friday afternoon.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
