Edgar Lewis Clewell (1896-1973)
Born in Bethesda, Minnesota on July 22, 1896.
B.A. from Moravian College in 1916. Commissioned in the Infantry in 1917. M.A. from Columbia University in 1922.
Transferred to the Signal Corps in 1925. Served in Hawaii 1925-1928. Instructor with the Pennsylvania National Guard 1936-1939. Graduated from Command and General Staff School in 1940.
Commanding Officer of Signal Corps Replacement Training Center, Fort Monmouth February 1942-July 1943. Brigadier General in August 1942. Commanding General of Chicago Signal Depot 1943-1944. Assistant Chief of the Procurement and Distribution Service, Office of the Chief Signal Officer December 1944 until retirement in November 1946.
Decorations included the Legion of Merit and Commendation Ribbon.
Died on May 27, 1973.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
