Robert E. Young, Lieutenant Colonel, United States Army (retired) of Naples, Florida, formerly of Arlington, Virginia , died on December 27, 2001. He was born December 31, 1917 in Lansing, Michigan, and attended Michigan State University, where he completed his BS degree and met Marie, his beloved wife of 59 years. Colonel Young is also survived by twin daughters, Mary (Richard) Fox and Martha (John) Uttley and three grandchildren, Keith Altenhof, Christiane, and Stefanie Fox.
Colonel Young served his country in uniform as a leader of a major government agency. He served in the U.S. Army Field Artillery in Europe during World War II and also in Korea. Colonel Young retired from the Army in 1962, having served in the military for 21 years.
Colonel Young also spent 23 years with the federal government. He served in the Civil Defense Agency, the Central Intelligence Agency, and was a U.S. Designate to multiple NATO meetings throughout the European community. Colonel Young retired as a senior executive at the Federal Emergency Management Agency in (FEMA) in 1985. Colonel and Mrs. Young relocated to the Naples area in 1985 from Arlington, Virginia.
Colonel Young was an avid golfer and loved tending his rose and gardenia gardens.
Funeral Services will full military honors will be held Tuesday, January 22, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Arlington National Cemetery. Those attending please meet at the Administration Building at 10:30 a.m. Contributions may be made to Hospice of Naples, 1095 Whippoorwil Lane, Naples, 34105 or to a charity of your choice.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
