Brent was born October 3, 1931 to Guy and Beulah Bushong in Syracuse, Indiana.
Brent graduated from Purdue University and upon graduation and commissioning in 1953 reported directly to Naval Flight Training. He spent a total of 22 years in the U.S. Navy and on his way to Captain, he once commanded the largest carrier squadron in the Navy, comprised of over 500 officers and enlisted men.
As Executive Officer of USS INCHON, he circumnavigated the world, and was part of helicopter mine sweeping operations in both Vietnam and Egypt. He retired in 1975, and was proud that two of his sons also earned commissions in the Navy.
He fell in love and married Dot in 1978, and they worked in Washington together for a number of years before retiring to the south. Dot was instrumental in Brent returning to his Christian upbringing, and Brent put Jesus Christ at the center of his life. He and his wife were members of First Baptist Church in Lenoir City.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Dorothy (Dot) Bushong; children, Greg Bushong and wife, Chris, Dave Bushong and wife, Carol, Bruce Bushong and wife, Jamie, and Carol Bushong Rix and husband, Matt; stepchildren, Barbara Collins and husband, Dale, Judd Medlen and wife, Karen, and Mark Medlen and wife, Allison; 16 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sister, Mildred Folds of Syracuse, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.
