Gilbert G. Brinckerhoff, 94, a retired Army colonel and resident of Leisure World in Silver Spring, died December 17, 1999 at Suburban Hospital of injuries suffered in a November 23 automobile accident near Montrose Road and Route 270 in North Bethesda, Maryland.
Colonel Brinckerhoff settled in Leisure World in 1990. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Olney.
He was born in New York, graduated from New York University and served in the Army from 1940 to 1960. His military service included duty in Japan and an assignment as assistant district engineer in Washington.
He was an engineering consultant in Pennsylvania after his military retirement.
His wife of almost 70 years, Evelyn Ross Brinckerhoff, died in 1998.
Survivors include two children, Karen B. Lerner of Bethesda and Dr. Gilbert D. Brinckerhoff of Centerville, Mass.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Memorial services will be held at the Leisure World Interfaith Chapel on Tuesday, December 28, at 3 p.m. Interment Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday, December 29, at 9 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 2626 Pennsylvania Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20037.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
