Shooting in West of Admiral’s Grandson Laid to an Accident
BALTIMORE, August 25, 1931 – B. Saunders Bullard, Jr., 18 years old, son of Lieutenant Commander Beirne Saunders Bullard and grandson of the late Rear Admiral W. H. G. Bullard, was wounded fatally at the Mare Island Navy Yard near Dallejo, California, it was learned here today through telegrams to members of the family.
The youth was shot on August 17 while alone in his room. His father expressed a belief that his son had shot himself accidentally while cleaning a rifle. Young Bullard will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
Rear Admiral Bullard, grandfather of the young man, was at one time the superintendent of the Naval Academy at Annapolis.
