Retired Naval Officer, Son of the Late Admiral

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island, January 18, 1935 – Lieutenant Commander Edward R. Eberle, U. S. Navy, retired, son of the late Rear Admiral Edward W. Eberle, former Chief of Naval Operations, died here today at the Butler Hospital after a long illness in his forty-fourth year.

Born in San Francisco, he entered the Naval Academy at Annapolis in 1911.  After two years at the academy he withdrew from the service but returned in 1914.  After the United States entered the World War he was stationed at the United States Naval Base in Brest, France, serving almost two years.

Before making his home in Providence, he was on duty with the Bureau of Supplies and Accounts of the Navy Department in Washington.  He retired from the service in 1930 because of ill health.

He is survived by a widow, Mrs. Mildred N. Eberle; a son, Edward Randolph Eberle, Jr., and a daughter, Miss Mildred N. Eberle.

Funeral services will be held on Monday in Bethlehem Chapel of the Washington Cathedral, Washington, D.C.  Burial will take place in Arlington National Cemetery where his father is buried.
