John Pershing Crawford – Colonel, United States Army

From a contemporary press report:

John Pershing Crawford, 77, an Army Colonel and medical administrator who retired in 1974 from the records section of Walter Reed Army Medical Center, died of respiratory failure January 30, 2000, at Arlington Hospital. He had emphysema.

Colonel Crawford, who lived in Arlington, was born in Los Angeles.

He was a graduate of the University of Nebraska and received a master’s degree in hospital administration from Baylor University.

He served in Burma during World War II and in Korea during the war there. He also was posted twice to Vietnam and served in Thailand and Germany.

He was chairman of the Washington area 25th Infantry unit of the Korean Veterans Association.

His honors included a Bronze Star and three Joint Service Commendation Medals.

His marriage to Lois J. Crawford ended in divorce.

Survivors include his companion, Awanda Miller of Arlington; two children, Kent Crawford of Laguna Hills, California, and Diane Duran of Whittier, California; a sister; and a grandson.
