WASHINGTON, June 26, 1940 – Major John H. Burns, editor of the Infantry Journal, died yesterday at the age of 53 in Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.
Attached to the office of the Chief of Infantry, he formerly had edited a military publication, The Mailing List, at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was born in Oswego, New York.
He was a Captain of Infantry when this country entered the World War.
Major Burns married Miss Leta Mangus of Oswego in 1919. She and two daughters, Frances and Shelia, survive him.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
