SAN DIEGO, California, March 21, 1934 – Lieutenant Commander Charles Clark Ammerman (M.C.), United States Navy, retired, of Elmira, New York, died here yesterday at the age of 65, after a brief illness. He and Mrs. Ammerman were visiting their daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Pace.
After twenty-one years in the service, Commander Ammerman retired in November 1932. Other survivors are two daughters, Sallie Nelson of Grosse Point Farms, Michigan, and Ruth Martin, Corning, New York.
Funeral services and burial will take place in Arlington National Cemetery.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
