The son of John Henry Upshur (Nottingham) and Kate Williams Upshur and great-great-great-grandson of Martha Washington. He died suddenly on Saturday, October 9, 1920 at his home in Norfolk, Virginia, where he was the Treasurer of the coal firm Johns Brothers. He was 68 years old and was born in Virginia in 1852.
He is buried in Section 3 of Arlington National Cemetery with other family members.
