WASHINGTON, August 1, 1942 – Colonel Charles D. Winn, retired Army officer, died here yesterday in the Walter Reed Hospital. His age was 71.
Colonel Winn, who was born in Kentucky, attended Virginia Military Institute and received his commission in the Army in 1901.
He won the Distinguished Service Medal as commander of the 306th Field Artillery, Seventy-Seventh Division, in France in the First World War. Colonel Winn retired in 1930.
A funeral service will be held on Monday with burial in Arlington National Cemetery.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army.
