Francis Alphonse Carrier, Captain, United States Navy (retired), died on Sunday, September 1, 2002 passed away in his home in Alexandira, Virginia, of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Husband of Keating K. Carrier and survived by his three daughters, Keating Frances Carrier of Manassas, Virginia, Monique M. Weiland of Temple City, California and Martine Z. Baker of Silver Spring, Maryland; three grandchildren, one brother, two sisters and many nieces and nephews.
Captain Carrier graduated from Holy Cross College in the Class of 1944. In World War II he served in PT Boats followed in peace time with the Radiological Safety Patrol for the Bikini Atomic Test. In his 30 year career he served on four destroyers with command of the last one, two cruisers and ended his sea duty as Commodore of three destroyer squadrons. Ashore, his Bikini Test experience led him into research and development. He served as Assistant Naval Attache for R&D in the Embassies in London and Paris. Tours in the same capacity followed in the office of the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations and The Office of the Deputy. After his naval service he worked for General Dynamics from
1974 to 1988.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 2, 2002 at 12:55 p.m. at the Fort Myer Old Post Chapel, Fort Myer, VA. Interment with full military honors, Arlington National Cemetery. Friends and family attending please enter Fort Myer via Memorial Dr. Gate into Arlington National Cemetery assembling at the chapel at 12:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hospice of Northern Virginia, 9300 Lee Highway, 5th FLoor, Fairfax, VA 22031-1207.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
