Fred A. Von Rembow, 81, a retired Army officer and Veterans of Foreign Wars official who had lived in the Washington area since 1955, died February 20, 2002, at Georgetown University Hospital after a heart attack. He lived in Oxon Hill.
A Wisconsin native, he attended the University of Maryland. He entered the Army in 1943 and served with the 63rd Infantry Division in Europe during World War II, receiving two Bronze Stars. He received his commission while serving in Korea during the war there. He later worked in intelligence and retired from active duty in 1963 as a Captain.
He then joined the VFW, where he served as political action committee chairman and as assistant director of national veterans services before retiring again in 1985.
He served on the national advisory committee of the Veterans Administration’s volunteer services program.
A member of Grace Lutheran Church in Fort Washington, he was a founding member of Faith Lutheran Church in Oxon Hill, where he served as church council president. Over the years, he served on committees of the D.C.-Maryland synod of what is now the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Ruth L., of Oxon Hill; two daughters, Sandra Brown of Annandale and Deborah Von Rembow of Baltimore; a brother; two sisters; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

On Wednesday, February 20, 2002. The beloved husband of Ruth L. Von Rembow; father of Sandra L. (Robert) Brown and Deborah L. Von Rembow; grandfather of Inger (James) Maslin, Eric and Adam Brown; great-grandfather of Finn Christian Maslin. He is also survived by one brother and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 25 at Grace Lutheran Church of Fort Washington, 10928 Indian Head Hwy., at 11 a.m. Interment on Tuesday, March 19 at 11 a.m. at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Fred A. Von Rembow Memorial Library Fund, Omro High School, 455 Fox Trail, Omro, WI 54963.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
