John Waters Drew – Captain, Confederate States of America Army

I have just discovered the Confederate States of America section at Arlington National Cemetery.

Captain John W. Drew (John Waters Drew) was a native of Washington, D.C. he was born in 1842, a son of Edward Martin Drew and Mahala Ann Waters. He married Lucy A. Meeks about 1875.

I don’t have his military history, however, just what I’ve been able to get from the Internet.

At the time of the 1880 United States Census, John Waters Drew, who’s occupation was druggist, was residing in Washington, D.C.  Residing with him were: Sarah E. Meek, his mother-in-law, age 57 and born in Massachusetts; his wife, Lucy A. Drew, age 25 and born in Maryland; his sister-in-law, Lottie E. Meek, age 17, born in Washington, D.C.; John Lane, age 34, born in Washington, D.C. and a clerk in a hat store; Frank Ziegler, age 34, both in Maryland and a clerk in a shoe store; and William W. Scott, age 31, born in Maryland, and a sugar dealer.

Michael Robert Patterson

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
