John W. Rambo Sr., 66, a senior vice president and general manager of Kay Jewelers, died of melanoma December 26, 1997 at Burke Health Care Center.
Mr. Rambo, who lived in Fairfax Station, Virginia, was born in Knoxville, Tennessee. He graduated from the University of Tennessee.
He served in the Army during the Korean War and was captured and held as a prisoner until the conflict ended. He received a Silver Star and a Bronze Star.
From 1960 to 1990, he worked for Kay Jewelers. This included service in California and Pennsylvania and three years in the Washington area during the 1960s. In 1974, he returned to the Washington area, where he had lived since.
Survivors include his wife, Clarice C. Rambo of Fairfax Station; a son, John W. Rambo Jr. of Centreville; two sisters; and two grandchildren.

He is also survived by his siters, Bettye Brown and Judy Rambo. Friends may call on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:30 p.m. at DEMAINE SPRINGFIELD-ANNANDALE CHAPEL, Backlick and Edsall Rds., Springfield, VA. Services with military honors will be on Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the Ft. Myer Chapel. Interment to follow in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
