Charles Bulzone, a veteran travel agent and ASTA officer, passed away May 19, 2005. Mr. Bulzone was 86.
Bulzone opened his agency, Boulevard Travel, Staten Island, New York, in 1968. He was very active in ASTA, serving as borough vice president for Staten Island/Brooklyn of ASTA’s New York City Chapter (NYASTA).
Agent Champion
A champion of travel agents, Bulzone entered the travel industry after a career in the U.S. Navy, from which he retired as a Chief Warrant Officer. His career spanned World War II (he was stationed in Pearl Harbor when it was attacked by Japan in 1941) and the Korean War. He retired in 1961.
“Charlie was a great guy, an outspoken advocate of travel agents and one of ASTA’s best champions. His contributions will be missed and his family has our deepest sympathy,” said Joel M. Abels. editor and publisher of Travel Trade.
Bulzone was active in the Elks Club and Lions Club and won national recognition for his service in the Rotary Club. With his wife Ellen, Bulzone was a long time sponsor of the Miss Staten Island Scholarship Pageant.
Bulzone is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ellen, his daughter Marissa, his sister, Mary, and two grandchildren. His son, Donald, died in 1995.
Services were held in Staten Island. Bulzone will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
