Retired Colonel Raymond F. Rudell, 81, of Hendersonville, North Carolina, died January 31, 1999
His distinguished 30-year military career included air combat operations in World War II and Korea. His awards and commendations include the Silver Star, Legion of Merit with four oak-leaf clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
He is survived by his wife, Helena J. Rudell of Hendersonville; three sons, Raymond Rudell Jr., Fredrick Rudell and Steve Rudell; a daughter, Patricia Ellis; one stepdaughter, Cristina; and 11 grandchildren.
Services were held at Arlington National Cemetery.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
