Colonel Fetkenhour was born on Janaury 14, 1938 and served in the United States Army for 27 years before retiring in the grade of Colonel on August 31, 1986.
During his military service he had service in Vietnam, Thailand, Alaska, Puerto Rico and Germany, among other locations.
His military decorations included the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Purple Heart Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with 4 stars, the Bronze Star Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Unit Citiation with palm, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon with 3 stars, and 2 Overseas Service Bars.
Colonel Fetkenhour died on June 4, 1998. He was buried with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery on June 11, 1998.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne; 2 sons, David and Daniel; 1 Daughter, Rachel; his brother, Carl, 3 grandchildren; and a whole lot of people who loved him and respected him. We will miss you.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
