Leo Bruce Warring – Commander,United States Navy

From a contemporary press report:

Leo Bruce Warring, 76, a retired Navy Commander whose career included command of destroyers and liaison work with the Naval Sealift Command and the Joint Chiefs of Staff, died of cancer May 22, 2003, at a hospital in Palm City, Florida.

Commander Warring was born in Washington and graduated from Charlotte Hall Military Academy. He attended the University of Maryland, then entered the Navy during World War II and graduated from Dartmouth College under a wartime Navy program.

He served 29 years in the Navy before retiring in the early 1970s from the Naval Sealift Command. On retiring, he remained in the Washington area until about 1980, when he moved to Florida. At his death, he was living in Palm City.

His marriage to Shirley Warring ended in divorce.

A son from his first marriage, Paul Warring, died in 1976.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Warring of Palm City; a daughter from his first marriage, Lani Gibbons of Brandywine; a half brother, Andre LaBonte of New Zealand; four stepchildren; and 10 grandchildren
