Angelo Saverino, 78, a tuba and bass player who retired in the 1960s after about 20 years with the Marine Band, died of a heart attack June 24, 1998 at his home in Charlestown, South Carolina. He moved there in 1985 from Marlow Heights.
After he retired, Mr. Saverino played with the National Symphony, the Kennedy Center Orchestra and the National Ballet Company. He taught music at a summer program for high school students at the College of William and Mary. For 20 years, he also operated a television repair shop in Marlow Heights, County TV.
Mr. Saverino was a native of Pennsylvania. He served in the Army in Europe during World War II and was awarded a Bronze Star.
His wife, Mildred Saverino, died in 1996.
Survivors include four children, four brothers, a sister, 11 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

FMass of Christian Burial will be offered at Fort Myer Chapel, Fort Myer, VA, Wednesday, July 1 at 1:45 p.m. Interment Arlington National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Knights of Columbus or Church of the Nativity, 1061 Folly Rd., Charleston, SC 29412.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
