Simon D. Newcomb was born September 7, 1842 in Pittstown, Rensselaer County, New York. He enlisted as a Private in Co. I of the 93rd NY on December 31, 1861 at Albany, New York. Promoted Hospital Steward February 1, 1862. Mustered in as Second Lieutenant Co. B February 1, 1863. Transferred to Co. D June 2, 1863. Mustered in as First Lieutenant Co. C May 2, 1864. Mustered in as Captain Co. C October 6, 1864. Discharged January 12, 1865. [NYS Adjutant General Report, 1901]
Wounded in action, North Anna River, 1864. “He was active, prompt and efficient in all the positions to which he was called, and the manner in which he discharged his duties from first to last was a credit to himself and to the regiment.” He has married since the war and has five children; William T., Frank K., Simon R., Marian A., Mary Louise. Simon D. Newcomb was born in 1842. He served as a Captain of the 93rd New York Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. He died in 1900 and was buried in Section 1 of Arlington National Cemetery. His wife, Mary Catlin Newcomb (1851-1925) is buried with him.
