A memorial service for Clarence Montgomery Miller Jr., a retired Air Force colonel and former resident of the St. Louis area, will be held at 7 p.m. March 30 at Dardenne Presbyterian Church in Dardenne Prairie, Mo. Burial was in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
Colonel Miller, 71, of Mount Pleasant, S.C., died February 26, 1992 at a hospital there of congestive heart failure. He was a resident there for 16 years.
Colonel Miller served in the Air Force for more than 30 years. He retired in 1972 as program officer at the Pentagon. He was a resident of Overland when he was commissioned in the Army Air Forces in 1943.
In World War II, he flew 34 combat missions over Europe and Africa.
He was the recipient of numerous honors and medals, including the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal and Oak Leaf Clusters.
Colonel Miller was born in Midco, Missouri. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright Patterson Air Base in Dayton, Ohio, and a master’s degree from George Washington University in Washington.
Among the survivors are his wife, Barbara A. Miller of Mount Pleasant; three sons, Clarence M. Miller III of St. Charles, Jeffrey K. Miller of Anchorage, Ky., and Michael G. Miller of Pensacola, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Cheryl A. Bassett of Tacoma, Wash.; three sisters, June Ryan and Doris Agnell, both of Denver and Evelyn Breen of St. Louis; three brothers, KMOX radio traffic reporter Don Miller of St. Louis, Charles Miller of Dixon, Mo., and Bill Miller of St. Louis.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
