FERRY K. HEATH DIES; EX-AIDE IN TREASURY
Assistant Secretary In Hoover Term Major During War

DETROIT, Michigan – May 27, 1939 – Ferry K. Heath, Assistant Secretary of the Treasury during the Hooveradministration, died in a Detroit hospital today after a long illness.  He was 62 years old.

Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on October 23, 1876, he served as a Major overseas with the 330th Field Artillery during the World War.

Mr. Heathbecame Assistant Treasurer of the Republican National Committee duringthe Presidential campaign of 1928.  President Hoover appointed him Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in 1929.

Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.

Ferry Kimball Heath received his education at the University of Michigan.  He wasa personal friend and great admirer of Herbert Hoover,under whom he served after the Armistice in thedistribution of relief supplies in Finland. Later he engaged in the insurance and shipping business on the Great Lakes.

In the Treasury he was in charge of public buildings.  When the Democrats came into office Mr. heath resigned and in December1933, he became a resident partner in Washington of Harriman & Company, stock brokers, later Harriman& Keech.

Mr. Heath had served in the  War with Spain as a Private in a Volunteer Infantry Regiment.

WASHINGTON, May 31, 1939 – Major Ferry Kimball Heath of Reconstruction Finance Corporation, who served in two of the nation’s wars and as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in the Hoover Administration, was buried today with full military honors in the National Cemetery at Arlington.  Major Heath died on Saturday at a Detroit hospital at the age of 62.

High officials of the Government, members of the Senate and House and scores of personal friends in and out of official life attended the services held this morning in the chapel at Fort Myer and at his grave, where final honors were paid.

Senators Vandenberg and Hale, Walter E. Edge, former Ambassador to France; Henry P. Fletcher, former Ambassador to Belgium and chairman of the United States Tariff Commission, and former Senator Henderson of Nevada were among the honorary pallbearers.

Major Heath was a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, a graduate of the University of Michigan and veteran of the Spanish-American and World Wars.  After the World War he was detailed by Herbert Hoover, then head of the American Relief Mission, to direct the work of the mission in Finland.
