Louis K. Tuttle Jr., 80, a retired Navy Captain who was a volunteer reading instructor at Lowes Island Elementary School in Sterling, died of a renal ailment October 14, 2002, at Bethesda Naval Medical Center, Maryland.
He had lived in the Washington area since 1979, in Reston and in Sterling since 1999.
Captain Tuttle was born in Shipley, Florida, and raised in Wharton, Texas. He was a 1942 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis.
He served in the Pacific during World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars. He served in Italy and the Philippines before retiring in 1972 as a fiscal officer for a Navy research and development program.
He had been a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the National Genealogical Society and the Sons of the American Revolution.
His wife, Janet Tuttle, whom he married in 1946, died in 1998.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret E. Zimmerman of Leesburg; a brother; and two grandchildren

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 21 at Fort Myer Old Post Chapel. Interment will Full Military Honors at Arlington National Cemetery.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
