Lieutenant Colonel Lee Ross Christensen was born at Fairview, Utah 17 January 1890, and died at Silver Spring, Maryland, 13 July 1960. His wife of 40 years, Eva Lenora Parke Christensen, was born in Kamas, Utah, on 12 August 1893 and died at Silver Spring, Maryland, 17 January 1970.
During his military career he served in France with the 20th Engineers (Forestry) , Company F in World War I. He survived the sinking of his troopship, the SS Tuscania 5 February 1918 off the North Irish coast.
During World War II he served in Africa and India as Commanding Officer of the 497th Port Battalion.
As the Troop commander aboard the SS Egra he witnessed the sinking of the SS Rohna in the Mediterranean Sea 26 November 1943 off the coast of Phillipville, Algiers.
Following separation from the service he worked for the Veterans Administration as a claims officer and Chief of the Philippine Island desk.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
