REAR ADMIRAL F. T. LEIGHTON
Former Commandant of New Orleans in Navy for 38 Years
NEWPORT, Rhode Island, November 23, 1943 – Rear Admiral Frank T. Leighton, UISN, former naval district commandant at New Orleans, died today at Newport Naval Hospital at the age of 58.
Born in Pennsylvania, he was appointed to the U. S. Naval Academy in 1905. He was also an alumnus of the Naval War College in Newport.
Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
