Lambert Whitfield Jordan was born in Greenwood, South Carolina, on 7 July 1875.

Jordan was called “Jimmy” by his classmates at West Point and this nickname stayed with him throughout his life. Along with many from his class, early graduation took Jordan to the short but intense fighting in Cuba. He became ill there and returned home to recuperate before his first tour in the Philippines.

Jimmy’s career took him to Walla Walla and Vancouver Barracks, Washington, and several Army service schools, even to the School for Cooks and Bakers at Fort Riley, Kansas.

Jimmy joined General Pershing on the Punitive Expedition into Mexico and was an instructor in the First Officer’s Training School during World War I, never going to France. He commanded the 43rd Infantry at Camp Logon, Texas, in 1918.

Jimmy retired in 1922 as a colonel and lived in Oregon and then California. He died on 22 November 1949 in Los Angeles, California, and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Classmates Fries, Bricker, Henry and Cole, all general officers, attended his funeral.
