Franklin W. Edson, 78, a retired Army lieutenant colonel, died of renal failure July 1, 1999 at his home in Alexandria, Virginia. He had Alzheimer’s disease.
Colonel Edson was born in Washington and raised in New York and Pennsylvania.
He received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and also attended George Washington University.
Colonel Edson served in Europe and Asia during World War II and received a Bronze Star. He also served in Korean and Vietnam during the wars there.
After he retired in 1970, Colonel Edson worked an administrator for Heron-Todd Steel Construction in Alexandria.
He volunteered with the Boy Scouts.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Dorothy Edson; four children, Martha Edson of Oxon Hill, Michael Edson of Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Dorothy A. Ritter of Huntsville, Ala., Patricia Watson of Richmond; a brother, Milton Edson of Springfield; and nine grandchildren.

Edson; father of Martha Edson, Oxon Hill, MD, Michael Edson of Tashkent, Uzbekisian, Dorothy Ritter of Huntsville, AL, Patricia Watson of Richmond, VA; brother of Milton Edson of Springfield, VA. Also survived by nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 29 at 1 p.m. at Fort Myer Chapel. Interment Arlington National Cemetery.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
