Colonel Frederick Warner Heath Jr. of Wilmington, North Carolina, died on Wednesday, July 17, 2002, in New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Colonel Heath was born in Chicago, Illinois, June 21, 1947, the son of Jean DeYoung Heath and the late Frederick W. Heath.
Colonel Heath served in the United States Army for 27 years including a tour in Vietnam. His final duty was President of the Disability Board at Walter Reed Army Hospital. During his service he received numerous medals to include: the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star for Valor, Purple Heart, 4 awards of the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal, among many others.
He is survived by his son, Frederick W. Heath IV and wife Julie of Herndon, Virginia; his mother, Jean Heath of Laguna Woods, California; and his sister, Susan Burns of Honolulu, Hawaii.
Funeral services with full military honors will be held at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2002, in Arlington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3131 Wrightsville Ave., Wilmington, North Carolina 28403.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
