Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Donald Lee Hill, 68, died Monday, May 15, 2000, in the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, Virginia, after a short illness.
Born Sept. 4, 1931, in Minden, Virginia, he was the son of Cenia Foley Hill of Shady Spring and the late James R. Hill.
Colonel Hill was a 23-year Army veteran, serving in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts.
He had been a resident of Dawson for 28 years and was a member of the Experimental Air Craft Association. He was a commercial pilot and flight instructor at Greenbrier Valley Airport, Lewisburg, with 12,684 hours of flying.
Other survivors include his wife, Barbara Sue Hill; a daughter, Linda Church and her husband, Wayne, of Dawson; a son, Michael Don Hill and his wife, April, of Dawson; a brother, Johnny Lenwood Hill of Seth; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va., at a later date.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
