Sergeant First Class Michael Damien Gunning, 45, died August 12, 1997 from complications of a stroke at Anne Arundel Medical Center, Annapolis, Maryland.
Sergeant Gunning served in Desert Storm. He has served in Germany and Korea.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal.
Survivors include his mother, Jacquelyn; four brothers, Stephen, John, Brian and James; and three sisters, Mary, Theresa and Kathleen.
Burial was hled August 19 at the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
