COLONEL M’CASKEY, RETIRED, DEAD AT 57
Received Silver Star Citation for Gallantry at Santiago in the War With Spain

WASHINGTON, September 6, 1932- The War Department was notified today of the death of Colonel Douglas McCaskey, U.S.A., retired, at St. Joseph, Missouri, yesterday.  He was 57 years odl.

Colonel McCaskey was born at Fort Ripley, Minnesota, December 29, 1874, and enlisted in the cavalry in 1894.  He was appointed a Second Lieutenant of Cavalry in 1899 and reached the grade of Major in 1917.  During the World War he held the temporary rank of Lieutenant Colonel and then Colonel and served on the General Staff.  He was promoted to Colonel in the Regular Army in 1927 and was retired for physical disability in 1930.

He participated in actions at San Juan and Santiago, Cuba, in 1898, and received the Silver Star Citation for gallantry in action at Santiago.

Colonel McCaskey was a graduate of the Infantry-Cavalry School, the Mounted Service School, the Ecole d’ Application de Cavalerie of France and the Army War College.

He is survived by his widow. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery next Sunday.
