Marion J. Carptenert, age 94, a resident of the United States Soldiers’ and Airmen’s Home, Washington, DC, died July 9, 1998.
Sergeant Carpenter was born in Chicago and joined the Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps in 1944. After the war, she enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps; served in Austria, Japan, Germany and Washington, DC; she also served with the Counter Intelligence Corps in Sendai, where she received the Commendation Ribbon with Medal Pendant for Meritorious Service, Far East Command in 1954; was assigned to military intelligence in Germany and Washington, D.C.
She retired in 1966 and settled in Mystic Island, New Jersey. She is survived by the two brothers she raised: DeWitt Carpenter, Gaithersburg, MD and John Carpenter, Mystic Island, New Jersey; six nieces and two nephews. Interment Arlington National Cemetery.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
