Entered into eternal rest on the morning of March 18, 2003, George Lester Hopps, husband of Johanna Fassbender Hopps. Residence, Charleston, South Carolina, formerly of Silver Spring, Maryland.
Graveside services will be conducted at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
Sergeant Hopps was born September 28, 1921 in Providence, Rhode Island, the son of George W. Hopps and Bertha Ross Hopps. He was a graduate of Rhode Island University with a degree in Chemistry. He served in the US Army during World War II and held the rank of Staff Sergeant. Included among his decorations were the the Bronze Star.
He retired as a chemist from Civil Service, Bureau of Mines.
He is survived by his wife of Charleston, SC; three nephews: Robert Hopps of Massachusetts, Mark Hopps of California and Blair Hopps of Beijing, China; one cousin, Dorothy Leslie of Pennsylvania. Memorials may be made to Lutheran Hospice of Charleston, 753 Johnnie Dodds Blvd., Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina 29464.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
