You may be interested to know that Marriner Bertholf’s father, Wallace, is buried elsewhere in Arlington.
A younger brother of Ellsworth Price Bertholf (buried next to Marriner), Wallace was also a graduate of the USNA.
Unfortunately father and son were estranged and Marriner’s widow elected to have him buried by his uncle rather than his father. Wallace, I have been told, earned the Navy Cross in WWI. He too was a Captain.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
