He was one of nine men, including British General Orde Charles Wingate, who died in the crash of a plane in India on March 25, 1944, during World War II. They were all first buried in India and were returned from a group burial in Section 12 of Arlington National Cemetery on Novmeber 10, 1950.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army.
