PETREY, WILLIAM A., III (Age 53)
Of Phoenix, Arizona, formerly of Springfield, Virginia, passed away April 18, 2000.
He was born January 10, 1947 in Norton, Virginia. He was the son of the late William A. Petrey, Jr. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Teresa E. Petrey, and their two sons, William A. Petrey, IV and Bryan E. Petrey; his devoted mother, Elizabeth (Zergiebel) Petrey; a brother, Robert D. Petrey, Sr. of Manassas, Virginia and his father-in-law and wife, George and Jean Erion, also of Phoenix, Arizona.
Bill, as he was known by all of his friends, was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Springfield, Virginia (Class of 1964) and a 1966 graduate of American University in Washington, DC. After his graduation, Bill worked for Potomac Research, Inc. as an Electrical Engineer.
On July 19, 1967, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War. He was in Company A, 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry — 25th Infantry Division. His rank was Staff Sergeant Technician. He received three Purple Hearts, the Medal of Valor, the Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Serving Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Army Commendation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal, and was Honorably Discharged from the Army on June 23, 1969. He was on standby for the U.S. Army Reserve from July 20, 1972 to July 1, 1973. In April 1973 he became a Life Member of the American National Defense Preparedness Association.
Bill married Terri Erion on January 25, 1971 and began work with George L. Erion & Associates of Washington, DC in 1972. In 1983, Bill established his own Defense Contracting business, William A. Petrey and Company. Bill and his family moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1993, where he resumed his consulting business and became a member of Moon Valley Country Club to become an avid golfers.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 29, 2000 at 3 p.m. at Hansen Mortuary, 8314 N. 7th St., Phoenix, AZ 85068, 602/944-1561.
A Memorial Service and entombment will be held Friday, June 23, 2000 at 3 p.m., with full military honors, at the Columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. Family and friends can meet at the Administration Building one half hour prior to the service.

ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
