General Rochester (1826-1909) and his wife, Anna Lawrence Martin Rochester (1836-1905) are buried in Section 1. Their son, William Beatty Rochester, Jr., is buried nearby in the same section. Also his son-in-law, Charles Wendell Fenton, Lieuenant Colonel, United States Army, is also buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
