Traverse City, Michigan – William C. Glisson, 68, died Saturday, August 14, 1999, at Munson Medical Center.
He was born November 27, 1930, in Chicago. A resident of Traverse City since April, William had previously been a resident of the Perico Bay Club in Bradenton, Florida.
William served in the U.S. Army for 27 years; he retired as a Colonel. Eleven of his years of service were spent with infantry units, five were in a teaching capacity at army schools
and three years of service were with the Department of Army Staff in the Pentagon in Washington D.C.
He served in combat with the Third Infantry Division during the Korean War and with the First Cavalry Division (Airmobile) during the Vietnam War.
His military awards include the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star for Valor, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal and the Purple Heart.
Survivors include his wife, Mary L. Wood-Glisson of Traverse City; and his son, Gary W. Glisson and his wife, Julia, of Portland, Ore., and their two children, William and Grace.
Graveside services and interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va., later this week.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
