COMMANDER W. C. OWEN
WASHINGTON, August 31, 1902 – Funeral services for Commander William Cook Owen were held at St. Margaret’s Church at 2 o’clock this afternoon. Interment was in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.
Commander Owen died early Monday while en route to Washington from Charleston, where he was in charge of the Navy Yard. The following were honorary pallbearers: Commanders H. F. D. Davis, H. B. Hird, A. H. Penn, T. J. Keleher and C. H. Wright and George Mitchell.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
