Colonel Demaria was born on December 27, 1917 at Bayonne, New Jersey.
The Colonel entered active duty in 1940 and graduated from Tank Destroyer School in 1943.
Colonel Demaria’s World War II service was as a Tank Destroyer platoon leader in XXth US Army Corps (commanded by Major General Walton Walker), under 3rd US Army (commanded by General George S. Patton, Jr.). He saw service in France, Belgium and Germany.
He was recalled to active service in 1950 for the Korean War. During that conflict, he served as a battery commander in 2nd Infantry Division Artillery. He elected to stay on active duty after the Korean War.
Colonel Demaria served as a Regional and Popular Forces advisor, IVth Corps, Republic of Vietnam from September 1964 to August 1965.
His military awards included Legion of Merit (two awards), the Bronze Star Medal, the Air Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and numerous campaign decorations.
Colonel Demaria died on April 6, 1998 and he was buried with full honors in Arlington National Cemetery on 23 April 1998. He lies at peace is in Section 9, Grave 5941 EH.
Survivors include wife, Dorothy A. (Smith) Demaria of Washington, DC and two daughters, Susan Lichtenstein of Potomac, Maryland and Nancy Gonsalves of New Orleans, Lousiana.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
