Thanks very much for helping our family find out that General Kearns is indeed buried in Arlington Cemetery. I am pallbearer R. Burton’s daughter and my children and grandchildren are interested in this information.

General Kearns, 70, Dies at East River Home
Brigadier General Edwin B. Kearns, Jr., United States Army (retired) died on Wednesday, April 19, 1972 at Hicks Wharf, Miles, after a lingering illness.
A native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, he was graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, in 1925. He served in various infantry regiments in the United States and overseas before transferring to the Quartermaster Corps in 1937.
He served at Army supply depots in Philadelphia, Atlanta, Charlotte, Fort Worth, Tokyo and in the office of the Quartermaster General in Washington D.C. He also served as deputy quartermaster for the Far Eastern command and the United Nations command.
General Kearns was awarded the Legion of Merit for service in World War II and for duty in the Korean Conflict.
He has resided in Mathews since his retirement in 1955 after 35 years active duty witht he Army.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Haynes Kearns of Miles; two sisters, Mrs. T.C. Cash of Tyler, Texas, and Mrs. James N. Garitty of Coriscana, Texas; and a brother, Henry Call, also of Corsicana.
A funeral service was held at 9:30 a.m., in the Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, conducted by the Rev. S. Janney Hutton. Burial was at 2:30 p.m. in Arlington National Cemetery with military honors.
Pallbearers were Andrew J. Billups, Jr., Andrew . Billups, III, Thomas E. Colvin, Raymond Burton, Col. William U. Kennon, and Dr. Frank Miller.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
