G. Maury Cralle was born in Blackstone, Virginia, on 18 February 1873.
He graduated from William and Mary College before entering the United States Military Academy class of 1898.
With the 20th Infantry following graduation, “Creeps” was in Cuba for the Santiago Campaign and in the Philippines by early 1899.
Cralle had assignments across the US and served in the Panama Canal Zone before World War I, when he commanded the 79th Infantry. With a lengthy career behind him, Cralle retired in February 1932. He died on 16 February 1934 in Washington, DC. at 61 years of age.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
